KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Producer Price Index (PPI) local production for November contracted by a smaller pace of 3% compared with October due to the decline in mining, electricity and gas supply and manufacturing. The Statistics Department said on Wednesday the contraction was smaller than the 3.6% recorded in October. It said there was a 45.8% decline for mining (-45.8%); electricity & gas supply (-0.2%) and manufacturing (-0.1%). However, the index of agriculture, forestry & fishing and water supply rose by 21.5% and 0.9% respectively. Higher prices were reported by four sectors which comprised of agriculture, forestry & fishing (11.1%), mining (4.4%), manufacturing (0.9%) and electricity & gas supply (0.7%). The index of water supply was unchanged. PPI local production for January to November 2020 decreased by 2.7%. Also for year-on-year performance of the PPI local production by stage of processing, it reported that all stages recorded a decline. “Raw materials for further processing fell by 12.3% followed by intermediate materials, supplies & components 1% and finished goods 0.2%, ” it said.
